What “Colors” does great, however, is reminding you of some great World Cup anthems like K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag” or Shakira’s “Waka Waka”.
It is one of those songs that will get into your head because the amount of airplay it will receive, not because it is so awesome. It won’t create hype in you and makes you anticipate the competition more eagerly, which is something you can’t easily forgive an anthem. Despite this, there are couple lines that pack punches and get you worked up and excited a bit when you hear them, like: “I’m ready, I’m ready, We still got a lil way, But look at how far we’ve come.” If there were little more moments like these in the song, “Colors” would be a great song, not just a good one. The lyrics are a pure cliché, since Derulo sings about the recurring themes like flag waving, overcoming challenges, and celebrating unity and equality. The people who don’t care about soccer and don’t know that the song was inspired by World Cup will certainly love it, more than soccer fans. “Colors” is actually quite catchy with a great beat, and it isn’t hard to see it ruling the clubs and radio stations during the tournament. We know it was easy to do better than Pitbull’s “We Are One (Ole Ola)”, but still. “Colors”, which Jason Derulo wrote by himself, isn’t as bad as you may think. Let’s get straight to the heart of the matter. One of those is the song “Colors” by Jason Derulo, which serves as Coca-Cola’s official anthem for the tournament.
